Vol. 121 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Repairs.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an application from Youghal Urban Council for a grant towards resurfacing of McCurtainstown Road, Youghal, and, if so, if he will state whether the application has been considered and the amount of the grant it is proposed to provide.

No application for a grant for the resurfacing of this road has been made by the Youghal Urban District Council since January, 1949. Road Fund grants are not made available for work on urban roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is prepared to give a special grant in respect of roads in the Ballycotton, Roches Point, Upper Aghada and Lower Aghada areas in view of the fact that, through insufficient money being allowed by the Cork County Council, these roads are absolutely disintegrated and, furthermore, are used extensively by tourists and visitors since Roches Point will now be a focal point owing to the setting up of the meteorological station there.

The Cork County Council have already been informed of the total Road Fund grants which can be allocated to them for the current financial year. It is for the county council to decide what road works will be financed from these grants. It is not possible to make available any additional grants.
