Vol. 121 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospitals Maintenance.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total sums paid out of Government funds to Dublin Corporation for the year ended 31st March, 1950, in respect of accommodation and maintenance charges of patients at Grangegorman and Portrane Mental Hospitals; and further, the total contribution from Dublin rates revenue for the same purpose.

The amount of the grant to Dublin Corporation under the Health Services (Financial Provisions) Act, 1947, which may be regarded as appropriate to mental hospital services is estimated at £31,980 of which £30,380 has been paid. The determination of the exact amount of the grant and the payment of the balance must await the preparation and audit of final accounts.

The demand by the Joint Mental Hospital Board on the Dublin Corporation for the year 1949-50 was £403,849. This sum included £39,018 in respect of the services of the previous year and, as already stated, the grant from central funds is estimated at £31,980. It is estimated, therefore, that the net amount to be met out of rates by the Dublin Corporation in respect of the year 1949-50 is £332,851.
