Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Allocations.

asked. the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the number of newly-weds who were allocated houses by the Dublin Corporation; (b) the number who have taken up occupation, and (c) the number who refused to take up occupation.

The answers are: (a) 126; (b) 114; (c) 12.

In view of the fact that there were so many people who failed to accept occupation, would the Minister consider recommending to the corporation that some form other than the lottery system would be adopted for the purpose of allocating houses to newly-weds?

I do not know that there is any fairer way. I think the corporation have been successful so far and if there is any evidence that it is unsatisfactory they can try another method.

The Deputy wants political pull in it.
