Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cottage Reconstruction Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in regard to cottages vested in purchasers under the Labourers Act, 1936, he is aware that owners of such cottages are not generally aware of their eligibility, in certain circumstances, for reconstruction grants, and whether in view of the existence of a doubt in the matter, he will bring the appropriate benefits to the notice of local authorities and interested persons generally by way of circular letter or otherwise.

The substantial number of applications for reconstruction grants which I receive from tenants of vested labourers' cottages does not indicate that owners of such cottages are not generally aware of their eligibility, in certain circumstances, for reconstruction grants. All county councils have been informed during the past year of the circumstances in which grants may be paid in such cases. I will, however, have the matter again brought to the notice of county councils.
