Vol. 122 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Road Repairs.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider making a minor relief grant available for the repair of the road from Galvin's house, Latoon, to Gilmore's house, Breda, E.D. Clonbrock, R.D. Mountbellew, County Galway.

The proposal does not qualify for a full-cost grant under minor employment schemes. An application was made for this work under the rural improvements scheme in November, 1943, but when an offer of a grant was issued it was not accepted by the applicants. I shall arrange to notify the spokesman that the terms of the scheme have recently been revised, and to send him a form on which the parties concerned can, if they wish, renew their application.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider making a minor relief grant available for the repair of the road through Gawla from Kingstown pump on the AhascraghCastleffrench county road to John Ryan's house on the Castleffrench-Ballyforan county road in view of the very bad condition of this road and its importance as a link road for the general public were it in proper repair.

The unemployment position in the area does not warrant the sanction of a full-cost grant under minor employment schemes. An application under the rural improvements scheme for the repair of this road is at present under consideration, and it is hoped to issue an offer of a grant to the applicants in the near future.
