Vol. 122 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Stop (Kerry).

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that representations were made for a creamery stop at Knockreagh, Scartaglin, County Kerry, and if he will state what was the decision regarding the claim and the reason for such decision.

I am informed by the Dairy Disposal Company that representations were made to them by the Deputy some time ago regarding the need for a travelling creamery stop to serve the districts of Ballintourig and Kilsarcon, County Kerry, which are, I understand, in the same area as Knockreagh. These representations were carefully considered by the company, but the conclusion was reached that the provision of such a stop would not be feasible. The travelling creamery operating near this area could not cater for an extra stop, and it would be quite impracticable to put an additional travelling creamery into operation to cater solely for this district. I would suggest that the farmers concerned should co-operate in making arrangements for the conveyance of their combined milk supplies to the nearest separating station or travelling creamery stop, as is at present being done by farmers in many other areas.
