Vol. 123 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Juvenile Employment.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate to Dáil Eireann the arrangements that have been made by the Government to provide employment for young people who have completed their school course and to make it unnecessary for them to emigrate to find employment.

The problem of finding employment for young persons is part of the bigger problem of finding a field of labour for all persons who are able and willing to work.

The present Government has widened the field of labour in Ireland by the many measures it has taken to increase the productivity of the soil and to create facilities for the establishment of new industries, including the expansion of the building industry. Further measures may be taken to deal with the specific problem of finding useful employment for young people who have completed the school-leaving age when the recommendations of the Youth Employment Commission become available.
