Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Bog Roads.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the very bad state of repair of roads and passages leading into the bogs in North Kerry partly due to the exceptionally bad season and whether, in view of the fact that the greater portion of this year's turf crop is still ungathered, he will make additional grants available out of the Special Employment Schemes Vote for the repair of these roads and passages.

If the Deputy will inform me of any particular cases he has in mind, I shall have inquiries made.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the passages referred to in the question are in a shocking condition at present, owing to the unusually bad weather we have had; that a great portion of the people's turf is still in the bogs; and that, unless grants under the Minor Employment Schemes Vote are made available, these people will be unable to get that turf out this year?

I am well aware that it was a very wet summer, but the bog development schemes will be in the Deputy's hands within the next fortnight or three weeks.
