Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbeytown Mining Company.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the names and nationalities of the directors of the Abbeytown Mining Company to which State mineral rights in the townland of Abbeytown, County Sligo, were leased in April, 1949, and whether the company is constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Control of Manufactures Act.

Information regarding the names and nationalities of the directors of the Abbeytown Mining Company, Limited, is obtainable at the office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Dublin Castle.

As regards the second part of the question, the company was granted a new manufacture licence and its business is operated in accordance with the provisions of the Control of Manufactures Act.

As the company was given a licence, I take it it is predominantly foreign owned?

Predominantly.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether there is any provision in the lease of State mining rights in the townland of Abbeytown, County Sligo, granted to the Abbeytown Mining Company, which requires his approval of any sale of an interest in the company to an external firm; and, if so, if he has approved of the sale of an interest in the company to the Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Company.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and the second part does not, therefore, arise.
