Vol. 123 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 8, 9, 5 and 10 and to take Private Deputies' Bills at 9 o'clock.

Mr. Byrne

Might I ask the Taoiseach whether, in view of recent developments regarding the break up of the railways and the seriousness of the matter, he would give Government time to the motion standing in my name concerning the workers?

I appreciate the point of view of the Deputy in putting down the motion and in putting the question to me now. I think that, far from achieving the purpose the Deputy has in mind, a discussion of this matter at the present time might be very harmful and certainly would not be beneficial. The Minister for Commerce of Northern Ireland is arranging to see the Parliamentary Secretary to-morrow in the absence of the Minister for Industry and Commerce. I think that in the circumstances the Deputy will not press it.

Might I at this stage direct your attention to the fact that on Wednesday last, 8th November, I addressed Question No. 1 to the Taoiseach to which he stated that the reply would be issued with the Official Debates? That debate has only come into my hands and I notice that the reply is not altogether correct with regard to the lands of Mathias Moore, former tenanted holding of Pigott estate.

The Deputy can put a further question if he is dissatisfied with the reply of the Taoiseach.

There is the undertaking which the Taoiseach gave to the deputation and to which he did not refer in his reply.

Put down a further question. You cannot raise it in that fashion.

Might I ask the Taoiseach to repeat the guarantee which he gave to the deputation in the presence of the Minister for Lands that the lands would be inspected at an early date?

I gave no guarantee.

I propose to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

The matter of Question No. 1 which I addressed to the Taoiseach on Wednesday last. I only received the reply with the Official Debates.
