Vol. 123 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loughshinny Harbour.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will now state what grant he has made to the local authority for the carrying out of the necessary work on Loughshinny harbour, and when work will commence.

As I informed the Deputy on the 1st December, 1948, my functions in such cases are limited to recommending a contribution from State funds towards the cost of improvements, provided I am satisfied that the outlay involved would be justified in relation to the services to be rendered to local fishery interests. The Dublin County Council were informed that a grant of 40 per cent. of the cost of improvement works at Loughshinny harbour would be recommended and the council have asked that a grant of 60 per cent. of the cost be made. On reconsideration of the matter the council have been informed that the maximum grant that can be provided is 50 per cent. of the cost or £7,000, whichever is the lesser. No indication can be given at this stage as to when the work will be commenced.
