Vol. 123 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Fine Arts.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Taoiseach whether Professor Bodkin's report on the arts in Ireland has been considered by the Government; and, if so, what proposals are envisaged to implement Professor Bodkin's recommendations particularly in regard to the administration of the National Museum and the National Gallery.

As regards the main recommendation made in Professor Bodkin's report, I would invite the Deputy's attention to the Fine Arts Bill, 1950, which I introduced in this House on the 29th of last month and the text of which was circulated to Deputies a few days afterwards.

It is not intended that the arts council which it is proposed to establish under the Bill should be charged with direct responsibility for the administration of the National Museum or the National Gallery.
