Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Vocational School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will afford the necessary sanction to the proposal of the County Cavan Vocational Committee to erect a new school in Arva town because of the need for the training provided in such school in a district of very small farmers and the distance from Arva to the nearest vocational school.

A proposal has recently been received in my Department from the County Cavan Vocational Education Committee that a technical school be provided for Arva and district. Before this proposal can be considered it is necessary that information be assembled with a view to determining the vocational education requirements of the area. The matter is at present receiving attention in my Department.

In view of the fact that I approached the Department on this matter last year, can the Minister now say whether he is prepared to receive the deputation which I asked him to receive, a deputation which will be in a position to provide a considerable amount of data that will enable the Department to say whether the school is desirable or necessary?

I do not think it would be necessary for a deputation to come here to get the information that is particularly required. At any rate, I do not think that the reception of a deputation could make any constructive contribution to the consideration of the matter at present.
