Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for County Cork Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will state (a) the amount of the grant allocated under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the Glengariff and Berehaven districts for 1951-52; (b) the number of schemes sanctioned, and (c) when it is proposed to put them into operation having regard to the need for providing employment in these areas.

The programme of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, for the financial year 1951/52 will not come into operation until the 1st April, 1951. As grants for the coming financial year could not be made available in advance of approval of the Dáil, and, furthermore, as the entire proposals of the local authority will have to be examined the Deputy will appreciate that notification of any grant for the coming year could not be given at this stage.

The schemes proposed by the Cork County Council for the western division for execution in 1951/52 were only recently received and are at present under examination.

When the Parliamentary Secretary is in a position to give the information that is being sought, will he be good enough to communicate it so that there will not be the necessity of putting down a further question?
