Vol. 124 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Premises.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Dublin Corporation have by compulsory purchase order acquired the premises of Mr. Matthew Murray, 11 Lower Seán McDermott Street, and whether the order has been complied with by the corporation or has been abandoned; and, if so, whether he will state when the order was so abandoned.

The proposal of the Dublin Corporation to acquire these premises under a compulsory purchase order was confirmed by an Order of the Minister dated the 9th May, 1942. I understand that Mr. Murray has since instituted legal proceedings against the corporation and in these circumstances it would not be proper for me to make any further comment.

Is the Minister aware that the compulsory purchase order in respect of these premises was initiated in 1940 and for 11 years this unfortunate trader has been kept in suspense and has been at terrible loss and inconvenience through the failure of the local authority to make up their minds as to whether they are going to acquire the premises or not? Will he not agree that it is an unduly long period?

I do not think it would be advisable for me to make any further statement in view of the proceedings pending.
