Vol. 124 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Road Works.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the roads in Valentia Island are in a bad state of repair and that the method of repairing them is crude and primitive; and, if so, whether he will have a special grant made available to put these roads into proper condition; and, if possible, the main ring road of the island steamrolled as light machinery for that purpose could be transported easily thereto from the mainland.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether out of this year's road grant special provision is likely to be made for the better repair and improvement of the following county roads: (1) Direendarragh to Church Cross via Coomnakilla; (2) Direendarragh to Blackwater bridge via Old Dromore; (3) Killorglin - Glencar - Caragh ring road; (4) Glencar-Balagh Beama, and (5) Ballinskelligs-Glen-Dungeagan ring road.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make representations to the local authority to have the protecting wall repaired along the east side of the Kenmare-Glengarriff main road on the Kerry side of the tunnel so as to prevent serious accidents occurring on this steep, mountain road.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for completing the steamrolling of the following roads forming portions of the Kerry ring route: (1) main road, Kilgarvan-Loo Bridge; (2) main road, Sneem-Glen-lough; (3) main road, Caherdaniel-Waterville, at Coomakista, and if he will request the county engineer, Kerry, and the local authority to make the necessary financial adjustments so that these works may be carried out during the coming financial year.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the necessity for erecting a concrete bridge at Cockow, The Valley, Beaufort, to replace the present wooden structure which is really dangerous and requires frequent repairs; and, if so, what steps are being taken to have a bridge erected.

With your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 46, 47, 49, 50 and 51, together.

The extent and location of the road works to be carried out in their area is primarily a matter for each road authority.

I shall have copies of the Deputy's questions sent to the Kerry County Council for consideration.

That is the new way?

It is the only way. I think I heard it before from Deputy MacEntee.
