Vol. 125 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wallpaper Trade.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any representations were made to him, or to the Industrial Development Authority by the Dublin and Provincial Wallpaper Traders' Association to arrange a joint meeting between the association and the wallpaper manufacturers to discuss conditions in the wallpaper trade, consequent on the recent increase of customs duty on wallpaper; and, if so, if he will state what action was taken on such representations.

There has been no recent increase in this customs duty, the last being in August, 1949. At that time certain objections to the duty were made by the association to which the Deputy refers and the association was asked to submit any suggestions they might have to make arising out of their objections. The suggestions put forward by the association at that time could not be accepted as meeting the necessities of the case. Since then no further representations have been received by me from the association.
