Vol. 125 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether any conclusions have been reached as a result of the consideration given to the question of bacon prices referred to by him in reply to a question on 15th March last, with particular reference to the practice now adopted by the curers of selling ribless sides with a view to the evasion of recent Prices and Charges (Standstill) Orders.

An Order was made by me on the 2nd inst. fixing wholesale and retail maximum prices for all cuts of bacon. Particulars of the Order appeared in the newspapers of the 3rd April, 1951.

Will the Minister try and ensure that, if any further subterfuges are adopted by these gentlemen to evade legitimate price control, they will be dealt with with greater severity than was the case on this occasion?
