Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance Tenders.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the names of the insurance companies having registered offices in Ireland; (b) the names of the foreign insurance companies and syndicates that submitted tenders to the Commissioners for Public Works in respect of employers' liability insurance for the period 1st April, 1951, to 1st April, 1952; (c) the name of the insurance company or syndicate whose tender was accepted by the commissioners, and (d) the amount of the premium that the commissioners have contracted to pay in respect of the said insurance.

The Commissioners of Public Works have accepted the tender for employers' liability insurance for the period 1st April, 1951, to 31st March, 1952, which was submitted by the Irish Overseas Insurance Brokers, 44 Kildare Street, Dublin, on behalf of underwriters at Lloyds.

It would be contrary to established practice to disclose the other information requested.

All I am asking is, can the Parliamentary Secretary give me the names of the insurance companies who have licences in this country? That is not answered yet.

No. I could not well do that.

I take it that the persons who got the job of insurance for the Board of Works have registered offices in this country.

That is so. On this occasion, eight firms that were legally entitled to do so tendered for it and the one that was accepted was the lowest.

Have they registered offices in Ireland?

They are licensed under the Department of Industry and Commerce.
