Vol. 126 No. 2

Committee on Finance. - Imposition of Duties (Confirmation of Order) (No. 2) Bill, 1951—All Stages.

I move for leave to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to confirm an Order made under the Emergency (Imposition of Duties) Act, 1932.

Leave granted.

I am asking for all stages now.

Agreed.

I move that the Bill be now read a Second Time. This is a Bill to confirm an Emergency Imposition of Duties Order which was made on the 21st November, 1950. As the House is aware, these Orders have to be confirmed by legislation within eight months. This Order, which is now being confirmed, applies to electric water heaters. The existing duty covered electric water heaters up to 28 gallons capacity, but as the firm manufacturing them has extended its operations, and is now able to undertake the manufacture of these heaters up to 100 gallons capacity, it was decided by my predecessor to grant an extension of the duty to cover these larger heaters. This is a firm which operates at Dunleer in the County Louth. It is manufacturing these commodities and is an enterprising firm which has extended its activities within the last few years. It is now giving considerable employment in that locality and deserves encouragement. There have been no complaints about the price or quality of its products which are both satisfactory.

Question put and agreed to.
Bill passed through Committee and reported without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.

This Bill is certified as a Money Bill in accordance with Article 22 of the Constitution.
