Vol. 126 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottage Rent Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the date on which a revised cottage rents scheme was submitted to his Department by Dublin County Council and if he will indicate the reasons for the delay in giving sanction to the proposed scheme.

A proposal to increase the flat rents of cottages erected in Dublin County prior to 31st December, 1946, on the occurrence of vacancies, by 50 per cent. subject to a maximum increase of 2/6 weekly was received in the Department on 19th April last. It was subsequently necessary to get further information from the council in regard to the matter. I intend to have this proposal sanctioned without delay.

In addition, a scheme for a revision of the existing graded rent scheme in Dublin County was submitted to the Department by the county council on the 12th February last. A final decision on this proposal has been delayed owing to certain difficulties in the way of applying such a scheme to rural cottages generally. I hope to be in a position to give a decision on the matter in the course of a few weeks.
