Vol. 126 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Horses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received any complaints regarding the conditions under which horses are exported to the Continent; and, if so, if he has satisfied himself that horses exported are not exposed to ill-treatment.

Complaints regarding alleged conditions under which horses are exported to the Continent have occasionally been received, emanating almost entirely from sources which cannot be regarded as being fully informed about the facts. I am satisfied that the stringent transport conditions laid down provide adequate safeguards to ensure that the horses exported are not exposed to ill-treatment. These conditions were indicated by my predecessor in reply to questions on the subject on 28th February.
