Vol. 126 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Yield in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will continue the experiment of his predecessor to improve the milk yield in the congested districts of Donegal by importing in-calf Kerry heifers to these areas.

Mr. Walsh

As the Deputy is aware, a number of in-calf Kerry heifers has already been located this year as an experiment in West Donegal. The question of extending operations will depend on the success of the experiment, the results of which will be awaited with interest.

Will the Minister agree that the sending of these cattle there for one year is not sufficient to prove the value of the experiment, and will he continue it for the coming year?

Mr. Walsh

We will see after the first year whether it will be necessary to have it a second year or not.

In view of the fact that there are a number of applicants for the limited number of cattle available, will he consider sending some in March next?
