Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter and Cheese Manufacture.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state how much (1) butter and (2) cheese was manufactured in (a) the first six months of 1950 and (b) the first six months of 1951.

The total quantities of creamery butter and cheese manufactured in the first six months of 1950 were 294,734 cwt. and 24,863 cwt. respectively. The corresponding figures up to the latest dates for which the information is available in the present year are—(a) 175,860 cwt. creamery butter manufactured in the period from the 1st January to the 15th June, 1951 and (b) 4,544 cwt. cheese manufactured in the period 1st January to the 30th April, 1951. During these two periods in 1950 the total quantities of creamery butter and cheese manufactured were 235,263 cwt. and 7,587 cwt. respectively. Particulars of the production of farmers' butter are not available for the periods referred to.
