Vol. 126 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bread Rationing Regulations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that large quantities of batch bread are being supplied to provincial areas without coupons with consequent serious loss of business to local bakeries; and, if so, if he will have inquiries made in the matter to ensure that the bread-rationing regulations are complied with by Dublin bakeries.

I am aware that country areas draw portion of their supplies of bread from bakeries in Dublin City, but I have no evidence that ration documents are not surrendered when the bread is sold.

Will the Minister have inquiries made with a view to ascertaining whether the position is as set out in the question?

There have been some cases where prosecutions were instituted because of failure to comply with the regulations. If any evidence of non-compliance is forthcoming, proceedings will be taken.
