Vol. 126 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there is grave dissatisfaction over the manner in which the bog on the More O'Farrell estate at Ballyna Moyvalley, County Kildare, was recently allotted and when tenants were taken from banks which they had cleaned and cut for years, and whether he will take steps to ensure that those who have cut turf on these banks will be allotted adequate facilities to do so in future.

Most of the allottees on the More O'Farrell estate had been taking seasonal lettings of turf banks from the Land Commission and they were allotted plots on or near the banks previously let to them. Every effort was made to facilitate those who wished to retain the banks on which they had been cutting. Many plots still remain to be allotted.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that banks were recently allotted on the Drogheda estate at Cloneygath bog, Monasterevan, County Kildare, that no proper notice of allocation was given to tenants, that in the case of Mr. Maurice Cleary no allocation was made though he and his family before him have rented two and a half perches for the past 40 years; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that in the allocation of banks by the Land Commission on the Drogheda estate bog at Cloneygath, Monasterevan, County Kildare, a bank was taken away from the Dunne family though it had been in their possession for over 30 years and in the course of which time that family had spent a great deal of work and money in draining this bank; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I will take together Questions Nos. 44 and 45.

The turbary on the Drogheda estate has not been allotted and the claims of all applicants will be considered before allotment takes place.
