Vol. 126 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water Supply Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if his Department has received proposals from the Kerry County Council for a water scheme for the village of Ballyheigue, County Kerry; if so, whether they have been sanctioned and when work is likely to commence on the scheme.

Preliminary plans for the improvement of the water supply at Ballyheigue have been received and an inspection has been made. Observations arising out of the examination of the plans and the inspection will be issued to the sanitary authority in the near future.

I am not in a position to state when work will commence on the scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in carrying out the proposed water scheme for Annascaul, County Kerry.

Certain observations and recommendations on the preliminary proposals for a water supply scheme for Annascaul were conveyed to the sanitary authority for their consideration last February. The submission of contract documents is awaited.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware there is no water supply of any kind in the village of Ballincolla, Ballyferriter, Dingle, other than a well which is dry for most of the year; and, if so, whether he is prepared to give a grant to cover the cost of having the water piped from Ballyferriter to Ballincolla village.

There is no proposal before my Department for the extension referred to by the Deputy. The matter is one primarily for the sanitary authority. I would be prepared to consider an application for State assistance towards a scheme of this nature when submitted by the sanitary authority and approved by me.
