Vol. 126 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Coal Reserves.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if the applications of the Limerick City Council and the Shannon Coal Importers' Association, for a reserve dump of coal at Limerick, to ensure against a winter shortage, have received consideration; and, if so, if he will state the nature of any decision that has been reached in the matter.

I have received representations regarding the establishment of a coal dump at Limerick. Fuel Importers, Limited will endeavour to secure vessels of suitable size for the importation of United States coal through the Port of Limerick. The purchase of this coal overside by merchants would be the more economic method for the ultimate consumer, but I have decided that, if necessary, a reserve store of coal will be maintained at Limerick.
