Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wage Earners' Income-Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is prepared to introduce a pay as you earn system for income-tax for the convenience of wage earners.

I am not at the moment of opinion that it would be desirable to introduce a "pay-as-you-earn" system for income-tax in this country.

Would the Minister be prepared to consider increasing the earned income allowances, so that a lot of these workers referred to will not have to pay income-tax?

That is a separate question.

Would the Minister be prepared to consider accepting by instalments the amounts for which certain persons became liable as result of the existing system?

The Minister is not prepared to make any change, at the moment at any rate.
