Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Lands—Bennett Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission has received a recent report from his inspector regarding the lands of Captain Bennett, Clareen, Birr, Offaly, and when these lands will be divided amongst the local deserving applicants; further, if he will arrange to receive a deputation from the local land committee in view of the fact that great local congestion exists in this area and that 15 young men have emigrated to England recently.

The Land Commission have not obtained a report on Captain Bennett's land in Grange nor have they any proceedings for its acquisition. The case has been noted for consideration.

The Land Commission propose to have inquiries made with a view to acquiring land in this area for allotment purposes. Consequently, it would not serve any useful purpose if I were to meet a deputation as suggested, but I will consider any suggestions that may be submitted to me.
