Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alexander Estate Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange for a Land Commission inspector to point out to the tenants on the Alexander estate, Clashroe bog, Roscrea, County Offaly, where their allotted portions of turbary are, in view of the fact that the 12 tenants concerned have turbary rights and are paying for them and cannot locate their areas of bog in order to use and develop them.

Fifteen tenants on the Alexander estate were entitled to rights of turbary before their holdings were dealt with under the Land Acts, 40 years ago. The holdings, together with the rights of turbary, were vested in the tenants in 1915 and since then the official particulars of the holdings and turbary rights have been registered in the Land Registry. The Land Commission cannot now intervene in the matter, but it is open to the tenants to obtain copy maps and particulars of their holdings (with appurtenances) from the Land Registry.
