Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Pensions.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that members of the Garda Síochána on pension find their pensions insufficient because of the high cost of living; and, if so, if he will arrange to have the matter of an increase in those pensions considered at an early date.

Certain increases in pension have been granted to ex-members of the Garda Síochána under the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1950, and no further increases are possible without fresh legislation, which is not in contemplation. In the event of there being any revision of the pensions payable to former State employees generally, I shall see that the claims of Garda pensioners are not overlooked.
