Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses built in each of the County Boroughs of Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Waterford, in each financial year from 1945-46 to 1950-51, the total amounts paid from the Transition Development Fund in each year to each county borough and the average amount per house in each case.

As the reply is mainly in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

The reply to the Deputy's question is as follows:—

A further payment of £60,000 was paid to Cork C.B. on 28/5/51.

* Dublin C.B. figures include flats.

† A payment of £62,000 was made on 21/3/51 in respect of value of work done on housing schemes in progress— 332 direct labour and 236 under contract.

A figure purporting to represent the average amount per house paid from the Transition Development Fund in respect of the houses in the above table would be misleading, inasmuch as the grant is paid from time to time on the application of the local authority and is based on the value of work done, including that on unfinished houses, at the time of application. It is not related to the number of houses built in any particular period. The average amount per house paid or to be paid out of the Transition Development Fund in respect of any scheme can only be determined when the scheme has been completed.
