Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Labourer's Cottage (County Kerry).

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the Kerry County Council received an application from Mr. Maurice Keane, Brackhill, Castlemaine, for the erection of a labourer's cottage on a plot which he wished to obtain on a derelict farm adjoining the site of his present dwelling; whether the owner of the farm agreed to give him the site and, if not, what provision has been made to obtain a site and have a cottage erected for this deserving applicant.

The matter has not been submitted officially to my Department but on inquiry from the Kerry County Council it is understood that an application was received from Mr. Keane for the erection of a cottage on a plot in the vicinity of his present abode; that the landowner concerned was unwilling to dispose of the plot on the grounds that he had previously agreed to the erection of another cottage on his land; and that an endeavour is being made to acquire an alternative site in the district on which to provide the required cottage.

I reside in that district and there is no derelict farm in that district.

What about your own?

My farm was developed by my people when Deputy Palmer was in the British police force, and later when he was driven out of Kilgarvan by the I.R.A.
