asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the Irish legal text books which have been published by the committee set up for that purpose, the names of the committee, the number of meetings held by such committee and the amount of the grant paid to it in each year since inception.

Mr. Boland
I assume that the Deputy is referring to the Irish Legal Terms Advisory Committee established under the Irish Legal Terms Act, 1945. The primary function of this committee is not to publish legal text books but to advise the Minister for Justice in regard to the making of orders declaring equivalents in the Irish language of legal terms. The Act provides, however, that the Minister may, after consultation with the committee, arrange for the publication of forms and precedents in the Irish language.
Nine legal terms Orders have been made to date. So far no forms and precedents have been published.
No grant is paid to the committee, and the only expenses incurred under the Act are an annual allowance paid to one member who acts in a part-time capacity as a secretary of the committee, travelling and subsistence allowances for members and the cost of publishing legal terms Orders.
