Vol. 127 No. 1

Questions— Written Answers. - Lettings of Halls.

asked the Minister for Local Government if halls belonging to local authorities may be let to bodies or organisations which have not at the time of the allotment of such lettings discharged their liability for rent for previous lettings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state on what date, at what hour and in what premises the decision was taken by the county manager to allot the hall belonging to the Droichead Nua Town Commissioners for a dance on 26th December next.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the names of those organisations which applied to the Droichead Nua Town Commissioners for the hall for a dance on the 26th December next and whether any, and, if so, which, of such organisations were at the date at which the hall was allotted, indebted to the commissioners for previous lettings and the amount of such indebtedness in each such case.

There is no express statutory provision prohibiting the letting of a hall belonging to a local authority to a body or organisation which had not at the time of the allotment of such letting discharged its liability for rent for a previous letting. Particular local authorities may, however, have made regulations governing such matters.

I have no information in regard to the matters raised in Questions Nos. 223 and 224. The letting of a hall belonging to a local authority is a matter for the local authority concerned.
