Vol. 127 No. 1

Questions— Written Answers. - Milk Production Cost.

andMr. D.J. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has now given due consideration to the claim of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers' Association for the setting up of an arbitration tribunal to investigate the cost of milk production and to fix a price which will allow suppliers a reasonable margin of profit, and, if so, with what result.

The Deputies will, no doubt, recall that I announced in the House on 27th June, 1951, that I was considering the possibility of making some arrangement whereby the cost of milk production would be reviewed periodically by some expert and impartial authority, and that the results of these investigations would be taken into account in fixing future prices for milk. At the moment I am actually making arrangements to this end and I expect to be in a position to announce the details at a very early date.
