Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing for Bord na Móna Employees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if Bord na Móna will consider the erection of houses for employees of the board in the village of Rhode, County Offaly, where suitable sites are available.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that Rhode Village is not regarded as a suitable site for any of the housing schemes at present under consideration by the board. The village is situated too far from any of the bogs which are to be operated by the board in the near future.

Should it be decided, later, to proceed with the development of other bogs in the vicinity of Rhode, the question of the suitability of this village as a housing site will again be considered.

Will the Minister undertake to ask Bord na Móna to keep this matter under consideration, in view of the fact that it is considered locally that, from a business and trading point of view, the village of Rhode is quite a suitable centre for Bord na Móna houses and also that it is believed that there would be less difficulty in obtaining suitable sites there than in any other area in the turf district?

I am sure Bord na Móna will take all relevant factors into consideration.
