Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Harbours.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the fact that the survey is now completed on New Ross Harbour and of its national and commercial importance, he will give it prior consideration so that it may be modernised as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when work on the erection of a suitable jetty at New Ross Harbour will commence.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 74 and 75 together.

The survey at New Ross Harbour has been completed by the Commissioners of Public Works and the preparation of plans and estimates will be put in hands as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to expedite the completion of the preliminary stages so that the work on the scheme can be commenced as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to state when the scheme for the improvement of Wexford Harbour will be approved and the grant which will be made to the harbour board.

A hydrographic survey of Wexford Harbour was carried out at State expense and the results of the survey were communicated to the harbour commissioners on 13th July last. A scheme for dredging based on the results of the survey was submitted by the harbour commissioners on 1st August. The examination of this scheme involves intricate engineering work and is not yet complete. If, as a result of this examination, the scheme can be regarded as sound from the engineering point of view, the question of a State grant towards the cost of the work will be considered as expeditiously as possible.
