Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding of River Moy.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make immediate financial provision for the removal of obstructions which cause serious flooding and loss of crops, hay, etc., along the River Moy.

As previously stated in this House, the Moy catchment area does not lend itself to piecemeal treatment, and the removal of the obstructions referred to must await the preparation of a comprehensive scheme for the catchment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that in recent times stones and rocks have been dumped into the River Moy? What steps does he propose to take to prevent this happening in the future and to have the present obstructions removed?

The Deputy was present on a deputation on the 25th October, 1951, in my office, when all this was gone into. It was fully explained to him on that occasion what our powers and functions are in that respect.

That is not an answer to the question. The Parliamentary Secretary has no answer.
