Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health whether he directed or instigated the discontinuance or reduction of any hospital building or extension project which had been sanctioned or approved before the 13th June last; and, if so, whether he will give detailed particulars thereof.

Apart from the modification of plans which may have been recommended to promoters in the interests of efficiency as a consequence of the usual examination in my Department and which in certain cases may have even resulted in the expansion of the project, I have not directed or instigated the discontinuance or reduction of any hospital building or extension project included in the short-term hospital building programme and sanctioned before the 13th June last.

Is there any foundation for the suggestion that some building work which was being carried on at St. Mary's Chest Hospital in Dublin has been discontinued—some extension work there?

I would need notice of that, but on the general question, I have not discontinued any project that was sanctioned up to the 13th June last.
