Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Balbriggan Unemployment.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the fact that serious unemployment has developed in Balbriggan within recent months; and, if so, if he will state what steps, if any, the Government are taking to relieve distress.

I am aware that there has been an increase in the number of unemployed persons registered at the Branch Employment Office, Balbriggan. The claims of these applicants to unemployment benefit or unemployment assistance are being treated with the greatest possible expedition. I have no other function in the matter.
