Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of Kildare Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are 61 holdings of between five and 20 acres each within the district electoral divisions of Balraheen and Straffan, County Kildare, which are within a mile and a half of the Dunn estate at Smithstown recently acquired by the Land Commission, and if he will request the Land Commission to allot enlargements to as many as possible of these holdings so as to make them economic.

The Deputy was informed on the 31st October, 1951, in reply to a question that there are 61 holdings, including portions of holdings, of between five and 20 acres within the district electoral divisions of Straffan and Balraheen. That figure includes larger holdings of which only portions are within these electoral divisions. It also includes accommodation plots such as those allotted by the Land Commission to cottiers, etc. Consequently it is entirely fallacious to suggest that 61 holdings in the area are uneconomic.

The claims of all eligible persons or bodies will be considered before the estate in question is allotted by the Land Commission.
