Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Forestry Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the primitive conditions under which Forestry Division workers on the Hill estate are employed; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to provide them with proper shelter accommodation, clothing and footwear.

A supply of rubber boots has been sent to this estate, which forms part of Gweedore forest. One shelter has already been provided at the forest and, in addition, a sectional Nissen hut is now being erected.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the number of unemployed in West Donegal, he will advise rotational employment of labourers in the Forestry Department of the Hill estate. Gweedore.

The employment of labour on the rotational basis on forestry work is impracticable. Under the existing system of recruitment of labour those most in need of work, for instance, married men with large families, are taken on first.
