Vol. 127 No. 2

Questions— Written Answers. - Land Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state, with particular reference to North Mayo, the cause of the delay in reclaiming the lands of small farmers, thousands of whom applied a considerable time ago for the benefits of the land reclamation scheme.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that a number of farmers in all counties, who have applied to have reclamation work on their holdings carried out by the Department, are anxious to have the work attended to at an early date. Work is being pushed forward as expeditiously as possible, having regard to the limited supplies of machinery available.

I might point out to the Deputy that it is expected that the land project will be in operation for at least ten years and that it is inevitable that there must be delay in dealing with applications. Progress in North Mayo is, in fact, satisfactory.
