Questions— Written Answers. - Legal Tender Notes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the total value of legal tender notes issued by the Central Bank for the past year; (b) where those notes were printed and (c) the cost of material and printing.

Particulars of the weekly issues and redemptions by the Central Bank of legal tender notes are given in the Report of the Bank for the year ended 31st March, 1951, recently presented to Dáil Eireann. The amount of these notes outstanding on 31st March, 1951, was £54,010,456, and on 3rd November, 1951, according to Iris Oifigiúil £57,058,169. Responsibility for the arrangements for the provision of legal tender notes rests by statute with the Central Bank, which attaches importance to keeping such arrangements confidential.
