Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Offaly Road.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that Córas Iompair Éireann will not repair or permit to be repaired the only road, which runs beside the Grand Canal, leading to Ballycommon Catholic church near Daingean, County Offaly, that the people and local clergy cannot get to the church as the road has now become impassable; and, if so, if he will instruct Córas Iompair Éireann to have it repaired or to permit its repair, or to give it completely over to the Offaly County Council, who are anxious to have it repaired.

I understand that Córas Iompair Éireann has under consideration a communication dated 25th October which they have received from the Offaly County Council in this matter.

Would the Minister be prepared to recommend to the chairman of Córas Iompair Éireann that immediate and special attention should be given to this matter in view of the fact that Ballycommon is the one Catholic Church in this country which has no proper road to it, and it is almost impossible for either the clergy or the parishioners to get into the church? I think the matter deserves special attention from Córas Iompair Éireann.

I am quite certain that Córas Iompair Éireann will give the matter very careful consideration.
