Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank Deposits.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total sum of bank deposits and money in circulation in this country for the years 1931 and 1951.

The earliest figure available from associated banks for their current deposit and other accounts within the State is that for January, 1932, which was £121.5 million. The corresponding figure for October, 1951, is £257.9 million. According to the average of Saturday figures the total circulation of Irish notes and coin was £13.9 million in October, 1931, and £59.1 million in October, 1951.
