Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mountmellick Garda Barracks.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if a site has been purchased for the new Garda barracks in Mountmellick, County Laoighis; and, if so, if he will state (1) whether the Gardaí authorities consider the site suitable; (2) the area of the site; (3) from whom it has been purchased, and (4) the amount paid for it and to whom.

A site for a new Garda station at Mountmellick, containing about half an acre, has been purchased from Mr. Patrick Finlay, Portumna, County Galway, for the sum of £150. The purchase money was paid to Mr. Finlay. The site is considered suitable by the Garda authorities.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary state what amount has been paid for this site?

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is no such person in Mountmellick owning property? This has been a transaction put through a Fianna Fáil commissioner for the purpose——

I should like the Deputy to know that sanction was given for the purchase of this site by the Department of Finance on the 24th February of this year.

It shows the coons could wangle it when we were in office too.
