Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport for Schoolchildren.

asked the Minister for Education if he will provide transport during the winter to bring children from the Clonmeen and Clonlack areas to Rhode National School, County Offaly, as many children have to walk long distances to school and the roads are bad and without shelter from the weather.

Mr. Lynch

I have received no representations in regard to the question of providing a transport service for pupils attending this school and, in the absence of particulars of children, who, it is stated, have to walk long distances to Rhode School, I am not in a position to say whether State aid could be granted, under the regulations, towards the cost of a transport service.

On receipt of an application from the manager of Rhode National School or from the interested local parties giving the names and ages of the children and the distances of their respective homes from the nearest national school, I will have the matter investigated.
